Tips for Posting on Facebook

Tips for Posting on Facebook

If you were given 1 hour on CNN to Broadcast anything to millions of people across the nation, what content would you share?

Perhaps a powerful documentary? Maybe healing, beautiful music? A How-to special on healthy eating? Maybe all 3?

What if I told you that you already own a mini-version of CNN? With the power of social media, you can make a meaningful impact in the lives of whoever is in your network. Even if only ten friends see what you share, your daily / regular posts can truly enhance their lives in a profound way.

Here, I will share some tips I have learned for utilizing Facebook for broadcasting a message :

Best Times to Post - I find that between 9am and 12pm EST, and between 5pm and 9pm EST are the best windows to post. After much trial and error, I’ve had the most interactions when posting during those windows. Also, I have found that each day in the week is essentially equal, except for Friday and Saturday nights, when it seems many people are out and about, not on social media.

I rarely post more than once a day. I believe that QUALITY is better than QUANTITY, and this way, you are posting the most potent, meaningful piece each day, and trusting that it will circulate and reach those who are meant to interact with it.

Rotating Variety of Posts - I recommend rotating between images/ pictures, longer “text-only” posts, short videos (that you create), and very short quote/question posts. Those are the main 4 varieties that I usually share.

  • ●  Current Events - Writing about “hot topics” is a great way to attract people to what you are posting about. It’s key to also embrace the wisdom of the “First 5 Words.” By this I mean that people will often only read the first 5 words of your post, before either choosing to read it, or continuing to scroll through the newsfeed. So if the hot topic is “Oprah’s Speech,” make sure you include those two words in the 1st five words :)

  • ●  Radical Honesty - I am a huge advocate for speaking the truth - rather “your” truth, because after all, we all have our unique perspective on truth. The posts where I wear my heart on my sleeve always elicit the most comments, shares, likes, and heartfelt personal messages. It can be scary to put yourself out there vulnerably, but I invite you to remember that we all have our hidden struggles and many people are thirsty for radical honesty.

  • ●  Non-Attachment - It’s important not to place your sense of self-worth in whether a post gets a lot of likes or comments. The ego/pain-body/Mental Advisors can often creep in and try to tell you that you are a failure because only 6 people liked your post. It’s key to have a firm foundation in the truth that you are unconditionally loved by LIFE / the Universe / God-n-Goddess.

  • ●  Engaging With People - It is great to stir conversations with your posts. I recommend replying to as many comments as you feel inspired. If you don’t feel up to replying, you can at least “like” what someone writes, to show that you read it.

  • ●  Making Posts Shareable - If you can create content that is shareable, then it will reach even more people outside your direct friend network. What type of posts do you hit the share button on? I usually share posts that I know will inspire others.

One dimension is your OUTPUT on FB, and the other aspect is your INPUT. This means the content that you read / watch on your newsfeed. For each of these, I recommend finding between 5 and 10 diverse examples that you resonate with:

  • ●  What pages are most inspiring / beneficial to your growth?

  • ●  What people do you follow that inspire you to be the most amazing version of yourself? You can click on the button “Follow,” then hit the button “See First” so that that person’s posts show up first in your newsfeed, rather than your Auntie’s daily pictures of her cats.

  • ●  What Groups are you in that you can both give and receive positive energy in?
